Open Call for Composers
Are you a composer affiliated with BumaStemra and looking to strengthen your practice as a music curator? Then this is your opportunity. You can now participate free of charge in the online learning community Curatorial Practices in Music, which will start its seventh edition on January 26 at ArtEZ. Buma Cultuur is offering five grants covering the full tuition fee (€ 775 per participant). Deepen your curatorial practice and expand your network through conversations with eight guest speakers and an international group of participants.
Programming festivals, initiating projects based on one’s own musical practice, and collaborating with social organisations: these are just a few of the many things a curator does. In this course, you will explore what it means to be a music curator. The course is intended for musicians and programmers in all genres who want to explore the potential of music and deepen and strengthen their professional practice.
What you’ll learn
In our changing world, there is an even greater need in the music sector to rethink the relationship between music and audiences, to develop new hybrid formats with appropriate financial structures, and to align musical goals with important social issues. This is where good curatorship comes in handy.
In this online course, Curatorial Practices in Music, you will search for different, perhaps even new definitions of what it means to be a music curator. What does the work of a music curator entail? How can you use curatorship to strengthen your own musical practice from within? Which values and functions of music do you want to explore and develop?
Application deadline: December 15, 2025
