Reinier Baas wins the 2025 Boy Edgar Prize
Guitarist and composer Reinier Baas has been announced as the winner of the Boy Edgar Prize 2025, the most prestigious prize in Dutch jazz and improvised music. The timing could hardly be better. This season, he toured with the Metropole Orkest. In November, the new album In Orbit was released, a collaboration with Kit Downes and Jonas Burgwinkel. The announcement was made today in the injazz podcast on NPO Luister.
A driving force within jazz
The jury praises Reinier Baas as an innovative force within jazz. According to the jury, he has a unique ability to combine tradition and experimentation, inspiring a new generation of musicians while making complex music accessible to a broad audience. His successful year continues, as Baas will also serve as artistic director of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NJJO) for the remainder of the season.

About the Boy Edgar Prize
The Boy Edgar Prize is awarded to musicians who distinguish themselves through boundary-pushing artistry and a significant contribution to the Dutch music landscape. Previous winners include Tony Roe, Monica Akihary and Ronald Snijders. The official prize ceremony, presented by Performing Arts Fund NL, will take place in March. Buma Cultuur and injazz support the Boy Edgar Prize.
